TransACT inks Department of Finance data centre deal
TransACT, part of the iiNet Group, has entered into an $8.6 million agreement with the Department of Finance and Deregulation for the provision of data centre services.
The deal is part of a ten year multi-agency interim consortium agreement through the Australian Government’s “Ready Now” Panel for Data Centre Facilities, managed by the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO).
The consortium agreement provides greater flexibility than previously available for government agencies entering into contracts for data centre services.
TransACT Chief of Federal Government and ACT, Ivan Slavich, said agencies are now able to purchase tailored amounts of data centre space through simplified procurement procedures.
“Ten year agreements allow organisations to invest with confidence and this lengthy agreement is proof of the quality of TransACT’s locally-based infrastructure. We’re glad to provide services to yet another large government agency”, Ivan said.
“We’re committed to meeting the Department’s stringent requirements and providing the outstanding customer service that the iiNet Group is known for,” he said.
iiNet has invested in a 4.5 MVA power and support infrastructure upgrade increasing the capacity and resilience of its advanced data centre facilities.
“ActewAGL our energy partner have assisted us by working to deliver power from two independent zone substations as part of the power upgrades, further enhancing the Data Centre’s mains redundancy.” Ivan said.
TransACT was appointed to the AGIMO Panel in March 2011 and supplies data centre services suitable for the protection of information systems classified up to Highly Protected.

“Fetchtv represents the future of entertainment in Australia and we’ll be offering the service from as little as $20 per month over 24 months when bundled with a 10GB broadband connection,” David said.
For $20 per month, TransACT broadband customers in Victoria will have access to:
· three digital tuners to receive all available free-to-air digital TV channels
· the ability to record two channels while watching a third
· a 1 terabyte personal video recorder that can record up to 650 hours of live TV
· the ability to pause and rewind live TV
· access to rent over 1000 movies on-demand including all the latest new releases from major Hollywood studios
· thirty pre-selected movies included every month at no extra charge
· a range of 25 premium subscription channels
· TV on-demand channels including leading kids and documentary content, plus popular TV series
· applications including YouTube on TV, Facebook, Twitter, Wiki, Weather and Mathletics.
“Now the latest movies are just a click away, and customers can choose from the best in entertainment from the comfort of their own home,” David said.
A free mobile application for the iPhone and iPad is available from the App Store. The app turns a smart device into a fully interactive remote control with rich content browsing capability, giving people the freedom to control and interact with their fetchtv service wherever they are.
“In partnership with TransACT, we are now able to offer a compelling entertainment service at an accessible price to the residents of Ballarat, Geelong and Mildura,” FetchTV CEO Scott Lorson said.
TransACT’s partnership with FetchTV follows the successful trial of the fetchtv service over the past six months.
On 31 May 2012 TransACT’s analogue TV service in regional Victoria will be retired. Existing residential customers have been contacted to upgrade to fetchtv. TransACT TV services in the ACT will continue to be provided over TransACT’s VDSL, ADSL and FTTP networks.
